At the annual Thoreau Center Town Hall Meeting, we seek to increase communication amongst you, the Thoreau Center's Program Office and our property manager. Learn about Thoreau Center's continuing efforts around conservation (energy savings, recycling, alternative transportation), upcoming building improvements, and upcoming nearby development that will impact Thoreau Center, and details about a new exciting addition about to open at Thoreau Center. We will also be asking for your feedback on Thoreau Center programs and some changes we've made in facility operations.

We ask that you send one representative from your organizations to attend (these meetings are also an opportunity to meet your neighbors, if you haven't already). Lunchtime pizza and drinks will be provided by Thoreau Center, and the meetings occur on two consecutive days, in an effort to accommodate everyone's schedules. So please join us: RSVP by email when you receive the invitation, with the subject line "Town Hall Meeting March 4" or "Town Hall Meeting March 5."

Lunchtime pizza will be provided.

Pacific Room at Tides
Presidio Building 1014
Info: bruce@thoreau.org

Tides CEO Drummond Pike recently joined a delegation from the International Rescue Committee on a trip to Jordan and Syria to examine first-hand the situation facing Iraqi refugees. Drummond's interest in these issues intensified with a large anonymous donation through Tides Foundation to IRC AND because Tides has a growing project in Tides Center: The List Project focused on refugees that worked for American interests and have become targets of the violence that plagues the region.

Drummond will discuss his first-time visit to the Middle East and highlight the delegation's work there during the trip, including anecdotal stories and photographic images.

Film Screening: “San Francisco—Still Wild At Heart"

Thursday, March 13, 12:30 - 1:30pm
Pacific Room at Tides
Presidio Building 1014
Info: bruce@thoreau.org

As San Francisco grapples with what it means to have coyotes as residents, along comes "San Francisco—Still Wild At Heart," a film that chronicles the return of coyotes to our urban landscape. Scientists give us insights into how coyotes impact city ecosystems, and how we can coexist with them safely. Through original footage of coyotes and other wild creatures, we learn how animals survive and thrive in the challenging habitat of the modern American city.

“Still Wild At Heart" explores the complexity, conflicts, and richness of the fertile interface between our human landscapes and wild nature. This one-hour natural history film is a tribute to these wild lives, and a celebration of their unique value and importance to our communities.

Damien Raffa of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy will present the film.

CayoteMyca of Twin Peaks, photographs by Janet Kessler

Opening: Thursday, March 20, 5:00p - 7:00pm
Exhibition: March 20 through May 16, 2008
In the Seed Gallery
Between Presidio buildings 1012 and 1014
Info: bruce@thoreau.org

The Seed Gallery is pleased to exhibit Myca of Twin Peaks, a photographic exhibit by Janet Kessler. Last summer Kessler photographed a wild coyote she spotted on Twin Peaks and named her Myca. Kessler's photographs not only show how this little bit of wilderness on Twin Peaks supports Myca's survival and playfulness but also capture her appreciation of the wilderness that exists in parts of our urban landscape.
