Past Exhibits NY
Thoreau Center not only provides a physical work space but also supports the community through facilitating a regular program of educational events, communication tools, social gatherings, informational visual arts exhibits.
The first portrait came about while seeing the city for the first time after the flood waters receded. I met many people after that trip who lost all of their photographic history. It was at this time I decided to turn my attention to a public High School senior class that was not supposed to re-open. I fell for these kids and many of the people who were gracious enough to sit for me. This project is dedicated to the people of New Orleans, to my family and to Estelle Beavers, who was an important part of my childhood and lived in the 9th Ward until her passing in November 17, 1999.
